ase, S.N. 1975 Journal 49 Tuolumne - El Dorado trip 14 Sept took rte 49 from Moccasin -> Coulterville & then J20 east. Headed for Bowens Cave but never fd it. Black Stone, Smith & Bean Cls all dry. Walked ~ 1 mi of N. fork Merced River from where crosses rd - no frogs. rd to Buck Mews. Merced River. Smith Station Rd (?) dirt rd to ? Decided to head up to El Dorado Co. (f20 went back! s.s.rd?) took J20 to 120 & then down to 49 N -> 50 E. Ended up staying at Fallen Leaf cmpgd on Tahoe shore area. Cmpgd on N shore of Fallen Leaf Lake - in shallow area of lake where grass is growing in H2O is bullfrog (R. catesbeiana) pop. Frightened 3 individuals into H2O; also a Thamnophis. One animal (~5 cm SV) was sitting in wallow in mud. Was able to approach within inches. Didn't move until touched mud. whole back oaked w mud & wallow also filled w H2O.
