Tuolumne Co. trip
2 Sept.
took rte 13 -> 580 -> 205 -> 120 up toward
Yosemite N.P. Stopped at Buck Meadows and
checked out Moore Cr. Is mostly dry with
a few pools scattered around. No frogs
seen in any of them or under the few
rocks turned.
Stopped at Middle Fork Camp (used to be
Monroe's in 1972; now is Lee's) on rd to Mather
& Cherry Lake (also San Jose Family Camp).
Walked ~ 1-1 1/2 mi upstream - is area where
got R. boylei in 1972. No sign of any amphibians.
Did see a Gerrhonotus (?) among several large
logs overhanging the river and a Thamnophis
~ 100 - 150 ft. above the river bed as walked
back. Finished there ~ 3 pm (PDT) so drove
up to Middle Fork Campground on Evergreen Rd (which
also goes to Mather & Hatchetchy Res.).
Look up one tributary but lot of logging
has occurred there since 1972. No frogs.
Also walked ~ 1 mi upstream from
bridge on Middle Fk Tuolumne River.
Habitat looks good for R. boylei but
none seen or heard. Stayed at that
cmpgd for nite.
3 Sept.
Drove up to Mather. One stream there
is dry this time of year & the outlet
for Birch Lake is no longer existent.
