ae, S.M. 1975 Journal 42 N. California trip 27 July Drove up to Castle Lake. People at UC Davis Limnology Station there say they have seen no frogs in the lake & that the trout keep them out ( altho they did hear them calling in the boggy end (W) of the lake ~ 1 1/2 - 2 mo. ago). Suggested Meadow Lake ( Little Castle Lake?) on saddle of mt to S (?). Hiked up but was dry. Suspect is not R. cascadae but Hyla but not sure. From Mt. Shasta City took 89 heading for Caltunas. Took Forest Serv. Rd into Colby Meadows where McCloud River crosses r/d. Found 3 Rana cascadae (see sp. acct). Drove d'n rd further to Moosehead Ck - did see juvenile on rock but unable to capture. Drove on to Altumas & stayed at Cedar Pass Crmpgd. 28 July Spent a.m. walking ~ 1-1 1/2 mi Cedar Ck. - no frogs (am looking for R. pretiosa). ~ noon drove up r/d E ~ 1-3 mi to Stowe (Stough?) Reser-. Is not reservoior but little pond - felled as 1000's Hyla regilla tad - most w hind legs a few more advanced.
