Colusa Co., Calif. trip
walked a few ft when heard
a Crotalus (virides?) in front of me.
probably at base of brush ~
3-4 ft away. Left immediately
& didn't bother to go Stony Creek
again.
Returned to Stonyford and
drove back into forest via 18N01
to Mill Creek campgd (near Ford
Springs) to stay for night. Was
~ 5 P.M. Walked down to Mill Creek
(which flows past campgd) and
Lo! there were frogs - lots of
them. Found egg masses; caught
2 (see species acct's - Rana boylii).
Camped there.
May
collected along Mill Creek
for 2 hrs Sunday AM (see species
acct's). Drove up to North Fork
campgd, turned & stopped at
Red Lake Bridge. Walked up Mill
Creek a few hundred feet - did see
4 frogs but not collected. Decided
was time to go home (~12:30 PM PDT)
so returned via 18N03 -> 18N01 to
Stonyford - back to Maxwell & rto 5 ->
rte 505 -> rto 50 to Berkeley.
