Susan M. 1973 Journal 23 San Luis Obispo Co. trip, Calif Well, Tom Buckholz & I are off again! Left Berkeley ~ 2:30 - 3:00 P.M. Drove out Rte 17 to 101 & down to Atascadero. Camped at Cerro Alto campg'd of Los Padres Nat'l Forest. Arrived ~ 7 P.M., already dark). Rained all day, most of night. As drove into Nat'l Forest, got new. looks at Atas- cadero Creek. Looks like there may be frost there. Decided to sleep in car - easier than putting up tent in the rain. March Wake ~ 6 AM to the sound of a nearly rushing stream (which we didn't notice last night). Overflowing (at least) 18 in. above normal, very muddy. Ate a lot of breakfast & continue on Rte 41 (which led into Los Padres) to Morro Bay. Stopped for cup of tea/cocoa & to decide what to do since had been intermittent showers since we had gotten up. Took Rt 1 up to Cambria - beautiful drive. Saw hawk (unidentified) on telephone wires. Also at least 20 returned blackbirds - looked like they may be nesting in areas right next to the road.
