S.D. Busack 1982 16 APR "contin" from CHECHAOUEN to P39 (just about at the intersection) 15 km SE of CHE.... In ponds 5.8 km SE (along the roadside) of CHECHAOUEN we took a series of RANA PEREZI (1120,♀, 62g, 86 SVL ; 1121, ♂, 32.5g, 70 SVL ; 1122,♂, 10.5g, 48 SVL) and two HYLA MERIDIONALIS (1126,♂, 3.5g, 39 SVL ; 1127,♂, 3.3g, 38 SVL). Turning around at BAB TAZA after seeing nothing on the road even after an exceedingly heavy afternoon rain, we collected 3 Rana perzi (1123, 10.75g, ♂, 48 SVL ; 1124,♂, 3.1g, 32 SVL ; and 1125,♀, 2.4g, 29 SVL) at 14.6 km SW along P39. 17 APR Escape from rain and cold, drove to MEKNES and spent the night at the HOTEL RIF. Nothing between CHECHAOUEN and MEKNES looked too promising. I am shocked at its devastation, I see around me. Agriculture has indeed wiped out all the original forest. There is barely a tree in sight that is not a EUCRYPTUS or a reforestation project PINUS. Depressing -- and the cold and rain are taking their toll on Jeanne and me, too. We need a charge from them -- hope MEKNES will help.
