P. Brysll 1985 Journal Rose Valley Ranch, 2.5 mi N Coso Jct., Inyo Co. Calif. 22 Jan It's difficult to say what reproductive "state" the swollen uteri represent. Have the zygotes/blastulas implanted? [illegible] or are the [illegible] uteri swollen to prepare for implantation? I suspect they've implanted, probably within the last several days. Interestingly, though, the males are nowhere to be found. Delayed implantation? I doubt it. 11pm Checked the live traps again before turning in. Caught 4, [illegible] I'll catalogue them with today's catch. This brings to 13 the total number gophers cought here today. 23 Jan Can keep up to check the "catch" from the macaber and live-trap sets at RVR. After the coffee. "Red" (John) is staying here at the trailer on the south end of the field. I slept on the floor. This trailer looks like a nuclear explosion hit it. holes in walls, filthy etc. The plan today is to collect the traps and gophers and head south to Freeman Cyn, Kern Co. to continue live-trapping. 10am No additional live-ca animals caught; but catalogued 8 more skeletons. 79, 107 bringing to total 207, 07. The 07 is enormous (#933). 10:45 Leave RVR for Freeman Cyn. 23 Jan Freeman Cyn, 2 mi below Walker Pass, Kern Co., Calif. ~4400ft.
