Journal 3 km NNE Los Cañas, Guanacaste Province Costa Rica 150 m 21 July I set another line some 50 m. up to road and to the south (east) - this line of 30 being in 2nd growth of dense + low (<2m) herbaceous growth. Not knowing the tree species + being very busy setting the traps + watching for snakes, I failed to take note of the particular differences between the N + S sides of the road. They are different. In height (~ 75 vs 40 ft tall overstory, resp.) slope (10-50% N (vs) 5-10% N resp.), type of understory (thorny scrub - Rose (vs) dense ground vines, resp.) and species composition of the overstory. Later we joined Ed Hester + comped at the river crossing between 3 + 8 km NNE Los Cañas. Setting traps today was a bit uncomfortable in this humidity. Can't remember when I sweated so much. Nighttime temperatures were was comfortable ~65-70°F and the wind blew strongly. 22 July 11am collected our traps - total captures of 17 Liomys salvini nothing else. My line of 30 east of the tiny yielded nothing. Subcounts were Ed=3, Duke=7, Shid=7. After having breakfast in Tilaran we set ourselves to stuffing Liomys on the roadside
