16 mi E, 0.2 mi's Mono City, (Jct 395 + 167), Mono Co., Calif 6475ft
22 May cont'd of this locality. Luckily I remembered his directions,
simple as they were. An earth road cuts south from 167
almost exactly 10 mi E of the 395 + 167 Jct. This road
heads straight for Mono Lake, which lies about 2 mi (or so)
south of 167 at this point. The road cuts through a number
of dunes, all vegetated by Chrysanthemum (I think) and
Artemesia. Junipers spill over from the hills to the
north. The dunes are intermittent, separated by
dense flats of Artemesin (i.e mul-caked soil) and
small rifts of shallow to moderately deep sand. The dunes
themselves, rising only 10-30 ft above the rifts are
quite fine - sparse vegetation. Fine sand. Mucho
sign of Lagus californicus and a Sylvilegus. I set ~~90
Shawmans last night w/ little expectation of finding
pregnant Microdiplopops pallidus. Yet the night was
surprisingly warm (it's now 60°F; last night it dropped to
round 50°F). Captures were as follows:
B. maniculatus 4
Etonicus meridiani 1
Phyo. ordei 1♂ 2♀ (one lost, the other peak extras)
M. pallidus 2♂ 3♀ → 2♀, 1♂ catalogued
Dipo paramenter 1♂

Not particularly good trap success, but 2/3 of yielded embryo
sets (cf 12,20). No f paras caught. 3 trap lines moved
today because of poor success and 90 more traps were set out
