The microdips have apparently just begun to
enter breeding condition. No signs of estrus were observed
but several ♀♀ had enlarged moderately to very swollen
uteri — apparently in preparation for implantation.
The ♂♂ were not scrotal however, though the seminal
vesicles were fairly large (~ 16 mm). The situation was
similar with the Perognathus, perhaps ♀♀ showing even less
reproductive readiness though ♂ parvus were mostly
semi-scrotal with full seminal vesicles. A single ♀ D.
ordii was in peak estrus. Several maniculata ♀♀ were
obviously pregnant. Repro tracts from parvus and
megaphorus were saved; formalin-fixed animals were
prepared first of vascular perfusion (VP on tags / notes).
Six maniculata were kept live for breeding experiments —
one was in v. late term pregnant. She can barely move.
two ♂ ordii were saved live for breeding also.
I'm a bit surprised to see the kangaroo and pocket mice
w/o embryos. The Artemisia are well into their new growth.
growth. Forbs are common now — many in bloom. The
greens have set seed. Perhaps this is a result of the late
spring (it snowed 6" up here 3 weeks ago), though
it may also be the normal state of affairs.
