P.U.Brylski 1982 Journal 2.5 mi N Coso Jct., Inyo Co., Calif. 18 April There were 3 young and 10 min later there were #3 (I had taken one immediately for fixation). There was almost nothing in the cage to obstruct my vision, so the counts are reliable. Despite my disturbances, such as an attempt (unsuccessful) to put in a small milk carton for a nest box, she continues to care for them I think. They still squeal periodically 8 hours after delivery. Healthy squeals. She runs all over them as she courses through the box. I added more alfalfa and she has made a burrow beneath it and moved the young there. Spill, how long she will care for them I don't know. I'm keeping an attentive ear to the cave to get the dead babies in the event she finally abandons them. I set 120 traps just west of Coso Jct along the aqueduct and in the creosote flats.
