There were 3 young and 10 min later there were
#3 (I had taken one immediately for fixation). There was
almost nothing in the cage to obstruct my vision, so the
counts are reliable. Despite my disturbances, such
as an attempt (unsuccessful) to put in a small
milk carton for a nest box, she continues to care
for them I think. They still squeal periodically 8
hours after delivery. Healthy squeals. She runs all over
them as she courses through the box. I added more
alfalfa and she has made a burrow beneath it and moved
the young there. Spill, how long she will care for them
I don't know. I'm keeping an attentive ear to the
cave to get the dead babies in the event she finally
abandons them. I set 120 traps just west of Coso Jct
along the aqueduct and in the creosote flats. This makes
200 Sherman set tonight.
