P. Bryski 1982 Journal 0.5 mi W. Cozo Jct, Bayo W., Calif 5 April Arrived here with field assistant Terri Felde round 4:30pm Set out 130 Sherman, 90 along the aqueduct and 40 in two lines east into the creosote slopes. One line was set just south of the white gravel piles, which covers the ground around and between the creosote and atriplex. The other line was [illegible] was set further south some 50m. in the "standard" creosote and atriplex slope with dark gravelly sand. Weather was windy today, from west at 20-30 mph and sunny. I was concerned about the wind but by sundown it died down to 5-10 mph. By now (1:30 pm), it is calm. Dinner time! Temperature at 11:30pm is 90C, no clouds, full moon. 6 April Catalogued four specimens today: a ♀ formosa!, which, though it had distended mammae, was not obviously pregnant. Scars were 3R,3L. I doubt very much she has [illegible] a litter underground presently. The scars looked classic (ie, old). Also catalogued 2 ♀ merriami and a ♀ microps. Two different habitats were sampled, and these being ① the aqueduct bordering creosote scrub (atriplex) and ② the creosote flats (slightly sloping toward the center of the valley). The aqueduct habitat is distinguished by earth mounds - artifacts of the aqueduct construction, and prime habitat for P. formosa. Captures today were as follows (excluding those catalogued) (80 traps) aqueduct creosote flats (40 traps) P. longimembris ♂ 5 9 ♀ - -
