P. Brylski 1982 Journal 1 mi E Olancha, Buys Co. Calif 24 March tipped me on this dune locality. Just south of the 395-190 Junction turn east (immediately N. of Cottonwood Cafe) and drive for a mile or so. The dunes mainly Start north of the dirt road. Good access. Wonderful deserti habitat. Or so I suspect. Set 80 Sherman's in 3 lines in the dunes. Plenty of entrapped dune habitat left - particularly in the central dunes area and the eastern dunes area. Also, the dunes extend east (south of 190) all the way to the 190-136 Jct. (see 11-12 March 1982). 4pm head south to set 2 more sets of traps - one at Rose Valley Ranch for pocket gophers and one along the aqueduct scree for P. formosus. 5:30 pm Finished setting the pocket gopher traps. Set 10 live traps and 9 macabees, usually in tandem. 2.7 mi N. Coso Junction, Inyo Co., Calif 5:30pm arrived here (turn west at Dunmore and take earth road to the aqueduct) and met Phil Hennis, part owner of the Rose Valley Ranch. We talked for some 45 minutes about pocket gophers, government (Fish & Game, BLM), and the contract I worked on out here 3 summers ago. Stayed in a trailer home on the Rose Valley Ranch in fact.
