Journal 22 March 1.5 mi E, 1 mi N Coso JCT, Inyo Co., Calif Onychomys 2 (released) Per. longimembris 5 released, 1 dead (all ♂♂) D. merriami ♂ 5 released, 2 dead ♀ 9 (kept) total = 25/60 traps Meanwhile, I'm still processing specimens from the Ambay locality — 3 juveniles (merriani). One ♀ showed signs of reproduction — swollen uteri [illegible] o-ovaries -uteri in a configuration I recognize from pregnant adult merriami. 2:30 pm Set 14 gopher live traps at Rose Valley Ranch. Mucha pocket gophers there. 4:30 pm Still processing rodents. So far the embryos are averaging 12-14 mm CR. 5:30 Checked gopher traps at Rose Valley Ranch several miles north of here. No success. Those gopher live-traps are not easy to set out. 11 pm Just finished a few more rodents. Checked the ♀♀ & captured 10-11 March 1982. After return the four ♀ checked all suffered marked weight loss and had resorbed the embryos. Since they had appeared to be doing the same thing in Soving a week ago, I decided to release them. I caught them like of course. Finally, since the embryos are still a bit small, I'll leave tomorrow, taking a handful of ♀♀ of me; this time I'll give them lettuce ad libido as opposed to every few days.
