Journal 7.7 mi S, 3 mi W Kelso, Kelso Dunes, San Bernardino Co., Calif 21 March in the grapy sand dunes, yielded 10 more. 11 total the other captures. 5 g the 11 captures were dead. Last night was extremely moist and cold. 4/5 dead were ff and all g these showed swollen uteri with implantation sites (dots) but no embryos yet so . The o? was non-scrotal. g the 6 live animals, one escaped (feisty!!)- but several minutes later was picked up by a red-tailed hawk; 3 were non-scrotal or semi scrotal o?s and were released; 1 ? had 2 advanced-stage embryos (CR=25; PVB 576) and the other ? had swollen uteri only. Therefore 5/6 ff had swollen uteri but g no value to me. My decision is to move on to the Owen's Valley tonight. The merriami should be near-term by now. And the Parognathus ?? . 2pm leave Kelso dunes for Owens Valley. 1 min 21 March 1.5 mi E Coso Junction, San Co, Calif- 3480 ft 945 pm arrived here several hours ago. Set 3 lines g Shormans (20@) into the creosote-scrub slopes east g the transmission line road. Each line is 0.1 mi apart. The area shows sign g recent heavy rain. Standing puddles (approaching pond-size) on the Coso Rd; moist/damp ground but tonight is very clear, no moon, brilliant stars. 22 March 12 noon checked the three trap lines and captures were as follows: Ammospermophilus 1 (released)
