P. Bryski 1982 Journal 14.4 mi E, 0.7 mi S. Olancha, Hwy 60, Calif 11 March greasy American burger. And fries. Came back and sacrificed a few animals. The micros & was very recently impregnated -- the uteri were swollen and faint bulges marked the implantation sites for 4 embryos. The temperature is a mere 60C wind from S. at <5 mph. Scattered clouds -- just full moon. I do expect some of the catch will perish by morning. 12:45am long night. Long day. 12noon checked traps this a.m. and much to my pleasure found 11 Dipodomys deserti in my 160 traps. Results: 11 Dipodomys deserti ♀♀ 7 ♂♂ 4 (2 released) 4 D. merriami; ♂♂ 2 (1 released) ♀♀ 2 Five embryos showed an x size (CE) of 12 mm.; 2 were very early in development, probably < 1 week. The merriam k-rats were also v. early in development as evidenced by low weight (~35-30 g). My experience from the Owen's Valley suggests this to be 1 week or less since impregnation. 330-gun Packed up the supplies and am headed west on 190 toward Olancha. Deserti habitat is to be found over the length (85 mi) of this stretch (Hwy 136-190 west to 395), particularly near Olancha. Little access towers, though there was 1 dirt road headed south from 190 5-mi
