14.4 mi E, 0.7 mi S. Olancha, Inyo Co., Calif 11 March 12 am Well, I started south & ended up north of Cosu Junction! I drove south on 395 to the Trona-Wildflower Road which leads north to Panamint Valley. Since it was raining more heavily as I travelled south, since I thought I could find desert habitat to the north, and since I wanted one more crack at the Coso Junction locality for merriami, I decided to change direction. Drove north on the Trona Rd up through the Panamint Valley. Just north of Trona there seemed to be some fine sandy areas, but not of great expanse. I assumed I'd find something in Panamint Valley. Nothing! all desert pavement. I wonder if merriami can even make it there! At 190 I turned west toward Lone Pine. and just before the 136 Jct, I found some dunes and associated 190 136 habitats of deserti-quality. Since marginal 190 records for deserti include Olancha and Keeler I was looking for former habitat which spawned those marginal records. Perhaps I found it. The map above shows the earth road bearing north and west off 190, 0.7 mi S of Hwy 136-190 Jct. The dunes stretch for a mere ½ mile but drifted sand gleans to surround the area. I saw several merriami on the road, but this is no surprise. I set 115 traps after dark - hope I can find them all. After setting the traps I buzzed into Olancha for a good old
