Journal Vicinity of Coso Junction, Inyo Co, Calif 11 March (cntd) longimembri's 8 (released) formosus 5 '' monileatus 3 '' On the west side g 395, the locality of 1.5 mi E. Coso Jct the following were caught: D. merriami ♂ ✈ released ♀ 13 D. microps ♂ 1 (PVB 507) ♀ 1 508 P. longimembri's ♂ 10 released O. torridus 2 '' with 20-some merriami ♀ in Sherman traps (labeled) I decided this morning to move south - hopefully to a locality of desert + merriami together in the same general area. My greatest trap success occurred last night with transects 13/4, t/15 @ 20 traps each. On these 3 I cought most of the 13 ♀ merriami. The habitat is dense (20-40%) creosote scrub, west facing slope of 5-8%. Gravelly/sandy soil. Plenty of longimembri's here also but all ♂✂ and, fortunately, not as many as were found in the east facing creosote scrub of transects 10. They were occupying most of the traps over there! Newtonia ◉ trees in transects 8 & 9 were also numerous but none entered my traps. This contrasts of the summer of 1979 at which time we couldn't empty them out fast enough 130 pm head south for deserti habitat - perhaps around California City.
