P Brytle 1982 Journal 1.5 mi E Coso Jct, Inyo Co., Calif. 3480ft 10 March I am checked traps. It rained a bit last night, just enough to erase my tracks on the more gravelly soils. It's becoming clear how difficult it will be to get a full series of (replicated) embryos for D. merriami. Only 11 FF were captured today, out of 160 traps. A single D. microsp F was captured on line 8 (see map) in creosote scrub. She bore 3 embryos in intermediate stages of development. The remaining 10 F merriami's, all pregnant, are being saved in expectation of sacrificing them at later stages of embryonic devel- opment. 3 of the merriami and 3 formozus were caught at the locality north of here, on the west side of 395 (this locality on east side of 395). 6pm after moving 3 or 4 trap lines and setting 3 more, the trapping picture looks as follows. Coso Jct hwy 395 Calif. aqueduct Dunmovin Rose Valley Ranch Transmission Line 1 Trans Line 2 N -> dotted lines show trap transects of 20 storms @ The numbers are in sequence of when lines were set. 8 March: 1-3; 9 March 1-3,4-7,8-10; 10 March: 7,8-10,11-12,13-14 Tonight there are 160 traps in place. The habitats are qualitatively similar -- creosote scrub, with varying % cover of creosote. Creosote is sparse to absent on lines 1,4-7. (15-25%) Intermediate (10-15%) on lines 2&3 and dense on lines 8-14.
