Journal 1.5 mi E Coso Jct, Hwy 46, Calif. 3480/17 9 March 1 P. longimembris. Six perissini embryo sets were catalogued, mostly 15 mm and under. However, two well developed sets were found -- one 25-mm CR, one 27. The ? of the 25-mm embryos died in the trap last night/this morning.. The 27 mm embryo were still alive and moving when I fixed them. The pattern established with today's yesterday's specimen is that more embryos implant than the number that develops fully. The larger embryos are usually in twins; earlier stage embryos usually number 3 or 4 per ?. One specimen (#489) showed evidence of embryo resorption -- the 4th being much smaller than the other 3. Apparently no longimembris ?? were captured -- though 9 ?'s were caught. Strange, 10 o'st murriani were released. No other species captured. 8pm Several more lines were set. A lenis g 20 @ were set 1/2 mi North of here (same locality), and one was set 1 mi west (.5 mi E Coso Jct). 3 lines g 20 @ were set west g bury 395, about 2 mi N. Coso Junction, just west & south of Durmovin. 2 lenis g 20 @ were set in the earth piles along the California Aqueduct and one lenis g 20 was set L to these, running east from the aqueduct to 395 mi Creosote scrub. Creosots at this last locality is in greater abundance than that found at the above locality (20% canopy cover vs 0-5%, resp.)
