That open place mightn't be such a good idea.
The moon still shines to the South West (?)
and the clouds seem to either disperse before reaching
that far, or they are blown east. A few sprinkler
of rain at 1030. Didn't count on this - no tent,
or lean-to. Guess I'll wind up in the W.

1.8 mi N, 0.7 mi E Chilcoot, Plumas Co., Calif. 5300ft
2gm left Sagehen Creek field station in V.C. vehicle
w/ undergrads "Frank" + Mollie (Williams). We're headed
north toward Beckworth Pass area - Chilcoot
more specifically. 330 arrive at this vicinity. Hunters
(deer) are in abundance, perhaps 10-20 are
in this traditional Zoo 163 area. Of course,
this is the mammalogy (Zoo 163) field trip. Same
20 undergrads, Jui Patton, Bill Kidickar, Carole Patton,
T.A.' R. Ostfeld [+ D. Rogers. - actually D.R. didn't
accompany on this one]. We probed the locality
out for several hours - its basically sagebrush
scrub, Artemesia comprising 60-80% of the cover
which in absolute terms seems to be ~ 50-60 % in
the lowland areas w/ 1/2 mi of the road. Chrysothamnus
is the co-dominant. Aside from these two species,
everything else is both insignificant + unknown to me.
The pond is quite fine - pritable Microdipodys
habitat. Both trap and line traps were set in 3 habitat
types: lowland sagebrush scrub, upland rocky slopes, and
