Journal 1 1/2 mi. S Walker Pass, Kern Co., Calif. 6 Sept That open place mightn't be such a good idea. The moon still shines to the South West (?) and the clouds seem to either disperse before reaching that far, or they are blown east. A few sprinkler of rain at 1030. Didn't count on this - no tent, or lean-to. Guess I'll wind up in the W. 17 Oct. 1.8 mi N, 0.7 mi E Chilcoot, Plumas Co., Calif. 5300ft 2gm left Sagehen Creek field station in V.C. vehicle w/ undergrads "Frank" + Mollie (Williams). We're headed north toward Beckworth Pass area - Chilcoot more specifically. 330 arrive at this vicinity. Hunters (deer) are in abundance, perhaps 10-20 are in this traditional Zoo 163 area. Of course, this is the mammalogy (Zoo 163) field trip. Same 20 undergrads, Jui Patton, Bill Kidickar, Carole Patton, T.A.' R. Ostfeld [+ D. Rogers. - actually D.R. didn't accompany on this one]. Chrysothamnus is the co-dominant. Aside from these two species, everything else is both insignificant + unknown to me. The pond is quite fine - pritable Microdipodys habitat. Both trap and line traps were set in 3 habitat types: lowland sagebrush scrub, upland rocky slopes, and
