1 1/2 mi. S. Walker Pass, Kern Co.
Q 35 each, baited with oats-seed mix.. The lines more north from my camp toward Walker Pass.
The two mtws at the summit are in view --
the southern one [illegible] obscuring the northern save for its western edge (side?). The lines both traverse, first, a sagebrush flat consisting of almost pure sagebrush mi 50-60% cover, 1-1/2 m. height interspersal of other shrubs and Eriogonum; [illegible]
they pass through juniper pine woodland of sagebrush sub-dominant. Finally they traverse Eriogonum scrub -- roughly 30-40% cover of Eriogonum, rabbitbrush, a type of sagebrush (not Artemesia), and a large number of unidentified composites, mints etc. The soils range from gravelly-sandy in the flat to very sandy & friable in the slopes. Roughly half of both transects are on the south facing sandy slopes. A single deer was seen and carnivore sign -- coyote & bobcat -- is in abundance what appear to be heteromyid burrows are also in abundance, particularly on the north slope. What occurs there? D-ganaminthus? I'll find out soon.
10pm While writing this, a storm has come in from the north. Over the course an hour, it has changed from a clear night to overcast from above me north. Lightning, thunder, but as yet no rain. Within an hour no doubt it will be raining. Guess I won't check the traps as intended. Walking across
