P. Brylski 1981 Journal Vicinity Coso Junction, Inyo Co., Calif 6 Sept (cont'd) It is equally plausible than that this year's young are indistinguishable in size from adults. This is plausible if breeding occurred in late may , parturition in late June (for example). At any rate , 6 of 8 ? merriani had scars of the two nulliparous FF, one was of adult size and the other greatly juvenile though its tail had been broken. None of the FF's had distended mammae. Presumably if juveniles have not yet been weaned , they are feeding on seeds etc in the burrow. Perhaps breeding wasn't carried through this year -- but this is unlikely since it would place 6 of 8 FF at ages over 1 1/2 yrs -- an unlikely life span for a majority of the FF, 2pm Leave camp (packed) for washup at the rest stop (Coso Rd. and Hwy 395) and then on to Walker Pass. 1 1/2 mi S; Walker Pass Kern Co., Calif 6 Sept 4pm Arrived here by Hwy 395 -> 14 -> Walker Pass, after late lunch, I turned east again on 14 and drove 1 1/2 mi. to an earth road trending south then west. This access road permits travel into a number of habitats from yucca woodland to Eriogonum scrub lacking yuccas to Pinyon Pine forest. This site is at the ecotone of Pinyon juniper forest and sagebrush / Eriogonum scrub, with few stands of Yucca. 8pm 70 Sherman have been set out in 2 lines
