5 Sept Labelled (2) in the sketch was maintained - though trap number was reduced to 15 (from 20) with fire stations set at 2 traps. Transect (3) was abandoned and the traps [illegible] used for the "intensive desert search": All told, 71 traps - all Shermans - are set now. The remaining 9 hold live animals (Dipodomys, microtipes) from Mono Co.
10pm left early to check the trapline set in formosus habitat. 1020pm arrive at the line - but drat! my headlight batteries are run down. Pretty nice out here anyway - away from the 395 noise. Time to relax with a beer and a smoke.
6 Sept.
630am Another cloudless morning. 11am pulled in all of the traps - save one which appears to be missing. Unfortunately, only caught one deserti and one formosus in addition to the other species.
Trap results as follows:
Aeiglexperrob - panly flats transects (2)
Peromyscus maniculatus 8
O. torridus 2 (live)
21 captures
45 traps Ammospermophilus leucurus 2 (in alcohol)
D. deserti 1 (live)
D. nevirami 9 (2 in alcohol)
D. microps 4 [illegible] (2 in alcohol)
The discrepancy between this list and the catalogue is because many were released - particular the P. manic and D. nevirami. Several microps escaped.
