Vicinity Coso Junction, Inyo Co., Calif
Sept 5 locality information - Says one article in
the L.A. Times: the desert is a dangerous
place Apparently its dangerous to those who
strike out across the desert without water.
Probably also without much idea of where they are
12 midnight : Turn on
Sept. 6. 6:30 am Start checking traps. 12 noon finished
gicking up the 4 mi. E Coso Jct trapline and
either checking or collecting the traps 1-1/2
mi. E. Coso Junction. Since I caught no
deserts and only 4 Perognathus formosus, I
decided to spend another night here. There
will be neither at Walker Pass, my next
locality. I caught a few deserts here in
the summer of 1979 but even then they were
sparse. The soil there is pondy & deep
enough in few places perhaps. Didn't
catch many P longimembris last night
either. Strange - They were extremely
common my last visit here. The following
species were caught in the petriplex scrub
on the flats (catalogue locality 1, 1/2 mi. E
Coso Junction): Peromyscus maniculatus 2 (+4 released)
30 captures / 60 traps Onychomys torridus 3
Pipidromys merriami 15 (several escaped)
D. microgus 5 (one miscatalogued
merriami - to
be corrected later)
A. levamis 1
