~2 km west Highway 86 (Salton City) on County Road 522, Imperial Co., California.
22 March 8 am. Drove here last night from the coast via Hwy 78, arriving fairly late. Moon was full, rising from the SE round 9 pm. Little or no wind. Upon arrival, I set 4 trap lines. 15 museum specials were set East & West of the spur road just off S22.
10 Shermans (large) were set ~20 m. North of these. Habitat is slightly sloping (~1-2°) flood plain; sandy soil w/ small rocks; vegetation is sparse (~7-10% cover) composed mainly of [illegible] & Larrea. "Scrub" describes it fairly well. 5 more museum specials & 5 small live traps were set in on the north side S22 where the terrain is rockier, slopes slightly more (4-5°), & thus supports denser scrub. Larrea there is co-dominant.
3 line traps were set in a steep wash (~3 m. across, 2 m. deep). D. deserti activity is evident south of S22 and to a lesser extent north of S22 as well.
9 am checked the line - no captures. South of S22, nearly all snap-traps were sprung & bait gone. At end of the line was a fresh fox scat & urine was found on one live trap. None of the live traps were [illegible] sprung. North of S22, 2 of 5
