~16 mi N. Jolon along county Rd. G 18, Fort Hunter-Liggett,
Monterey C., Calif Elev. 2200'
Ground squirrels, acorn woodpeckers are common here.
Bobcat scat was found on the fire roads but didn't
see any coyote scat. 55 live traps & 50 snap traps
were set in the chaparral habitat.
31 July 1am Start checking traps. 12 pm Park at Hunter-Liggett
Fishing Pond. Captures are as follows:
Neotoma fuscipes 3
Peromyscus maniculatus: 6
P. truei 10
Perognathus californicus 3
Peromyscus californicus 3
Dipodomys 6

Trap success was therefore quite high, considering that
15 snap traps were sprung w/o captures. One Dipos & one
adult Neotoma were caught in the snap trap lines.
In both cases, the animals were caught behind the neck.
The Dipos was still alive when I found it this a.m.
The sprung museum specials are mostly attributed to
These two species. Everything save the live trapped Dipo's &
Perognathus were pickled. One P. truei was found to have
embryos (see catalogue # 333). The live Dipos will be sexed
& either pickled or kept alive when we arrive in Berkeley.
1 pm after a swim in Milpitas Reservoir, leave for
Berkeley.
