P. Brylski 1987 6 mi W Panache along County Rd J1 San Benito Co., Calif. Elev. ~1750' 27 July 10 am picked up the trap line this a.m., starting round 7am. Poor success. 1 Dipus, probably elephantinus, although somewhat on small size & the range; 2 Reithro megalotis, 3 Peromyscus maniculatus, 7 P. truei, 2 Neotoma lepida, 1 Perognathus californicus - all thru from 120 traps. None of the sherman in the grassland along the edge yielded anything. The truei became abundant in the dense chamise along the ridge and hill top, while the maniculatus were commonly trapped among the Eriogonum - scrub habitat. 1 juvenile Neotoma was found in the grassland - oak woodland ecotone while the other was live-trapped in the dense chamise - scrub habitat. 1230 Pack up & head SE to Panoche. map of the Journal 31 July route & travel & trap locations Little Panoche Creek, 4 mi N Mercy Hot Springs, along County Rd J1 Fresno Co., Calif Elev. 550 ft 27 July 1pm arrived after driving north on J1 past Mercy Hot Springs we began searching for suitable trapping site.
