P. Brylski K81 Journal 7 mi S Hwy 190 on Darwin Rd. Inyo Co. California 25 may immediately beyond an ageing *homestead/mine. The habitats here are sparse scrub w/ Atriplex, mammilaria, & other unidentified shrubs. The road cuts down a narrow canyon (~50 m wide) up a wash winding in parallel. Ed #eske & P set 40 traps west of the parking area in steep (15° slope) scrub w/ some creosote & along the gravelly wash. Captures are as follows: Peromyscus crinitus 3♂, 1♀ Perognathus formosus 5♂, 2♀ P. longimembris 1♂ Dipodomys merriami 1♀ subtotal = 13 Nearly all were released - except for the merriami and one formosus. 45 traps were set up the canyon along the wash. Soil there is either compacted or loose gravelly sand - certainly more suitable Dipodomys habitat. Captures are as follows: D. merriami 3 P. formosus 4♂ P. longimembris 1 (escaped before sexing) Peromyscus maniculatus 1 (" " ") P. crinitus (0♂, 1♀ (pregnant) subtotal = 11 The merriami were saved & the rest released. Animals were transported back in the Sherman traps. TOTAL CAPTURES = 24
