P. Brylski 1981 Journal 6 1 km NW Hwy 78 on County Road 52, San Diego Co., Calif 24 March + opuntia Cholla cacti, a few unknown cacti, various shrubby (scrubby?) plants. Lots of thorns on those bushers. Set 3 lines - one starting north from County Road 52, up a small canyon (100-150 meters long) and onto a sloping bench (~3° southerly slope). A second line began 20 meters to the [illegible] east, up another canyon, parallel to the first. The line continues north up through the canyon & along the escarpment forming the east edge of the bench. A deep wash (5-7m.) cuts the bench. A third line starts ~300m. East of the first 2, running north along a boulder strewn hillside. Granite. A few traps were also set in the wash at the base of their rocky hillside. In all three lines, large & small live traps were alternated with museum specials. Trap to trap distance was 15-25 meters. With a little luck I'll catch some of those Perognathus baileyi The vegetation over all three lines is typical of high-desert habitat. Spanish bayonet, various cacti (mainly opuntia), yuccas, and aromatic shrubs (none of whose names I know) form a cover of 50-75% in most places. Ipm just finished setting the traps - The coyotes
