P. Brylski 1981 Journal. 5 24 march ~5 pm NE Glamis, along Hwy 78, Imperial Co., Calif. 9am Just returned from checking the line & pulling up the traps. The catch was about the same as last night. Of 40 traps (16 large Shermans, 5 small, 25 snap traps), caught 8 Dipodomys merriami, 1 Peromyscus eremicus, 4 Perognathus sp.. Most of the traps were not sprung. Ants are a problem here -- nearly half the line traps had ants and ~6 or 7 snap traps had their peanut butter removed by ants. Still, >25% success isn't too bad. 11am After stuffing 3 merriami's, I'm ready to pack up. This isn't baileyi country so I'm heading north & west to around Banner. Hall & Kelson note that a locality for baileyi hveyi (Grinell) is Banner. 24 march 1 km NW Hwy 78 on County Road S2, San Diego Co. Calif. 5pm Set the traps in the hills east of the "San Felipe Historical Monument". I don't have a county map, but I wonder if this area is the "San Felipe Narrows", a locality for baileyi hveyi mentioned in Hall & Kelson. The terrain slopes up several thousand feet up from the San Felipe Creek. Plant cover is 50-75%. Yuccas, barrel acti
