Bourman 1952. Journal. 50. Sept. 10. 16 mi. NE Pojoaque, 8750 ft. Santa Fe Co., New Mexico. Saw 31 Museum specialists along the bottom of a grassy wash. Cove of willows, fir, and Douglas Fir. Used oatmeal bait. Sept. 11. Caught 7 immature Peromyscus maniculatus in tropoline. During the morning (7:30 - 11:30) hiked N of camp along a yellow pine covered slope (S facing) and then along a fir-spruce-poplar-older covered slope (N facing) with an intermittent stream in the valley. Observed the following animals: pure flocks of Pygmy Nuthatches in Yellow Pine, Hermit (3) Thrushes (ad. + imm.), Hairy Woodpecker, Coniceps juncoos (ad.+imm. in flocks of 30+), Steller Jay, solitary Paleolated Warblers, Audubon Warblers, (ofttimes with Pygmy Nuthatch flocks), one Band-tailed Pigeon flew swiftly over yellow pines heading south, Mt. Chickadees, Raven, House Wren, Red-shafted Flicker, Chickaree, Chipmunk, Pocket Gopher Viggups. Dr. O.P. Pearson shot an immature Albert Squirrel in Yellow Pine today. The following temperatures were obtained: Species Temp. Time Conditions Coniceps juncoos 41.7°C 9:10 AM Dead 15 sec. " " 42.3°C 10:25 AM dead 2 sec. " " 42.1°C 11:25 AM alive Chickaree 40.6°C 10:05 AM dead 2 sec. Flocks of warblers were seen less commonly today. Only a few (2-5) birds (Sp?) seen in an aspen grove early this morning. All other birds were solitary, or mixed with Pygmy Nuthatch flocks. Tropoline as of Sept. 10.
