One young female was caught in a Museum Special trap baited with a mixture of peanut butter and rolled oats. Thirty-seven traps were set in a flat area at the base of hill in a stand of Artemesia californica mixed with Salvia mellifera, Baccharis sp. and short grass. No sign of woodrat houses, but we suspected they nested in some of the dense and twiggy clumps of Artemesia.
