Boulevard, ST. 1942 35 Itinerary Apr. 1 Zoni NW Berglund Ranch, 5 mi. N Corralitos, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. Runs of brush rabbits are very numerous in the grass on the hills. We also found recent deer droppings. Coyote droppings are extremely numerous and, in the few we examined, we found many rodent bones, one lower jaw thought to be woodrat. It would be extremely interesting to collect many of these droppings for further study. Despite the apparent abundance of coyotes, we have heard none howling at night. Last night we heard a great horned owl, another owl unidentified, frogs and crickets. Apr. 2 We arose again at 5:30 AM. The moon was still just above the hills to the south and the stars were still out. Heavy dew last night, but seems warmer. Our traps this morning yielded 5 Dipodomys!; 1 Sorex (probably vagrans), 1 small Sylviagus bachmani, 2 Microtus, 3 wren-tits, 2 spotted towhees, and 1 golden-crowned sparrow. Also 1 Peromyscus californicus and 1 P. maniculatus. From traps which she set along the road thru the redwoods east of camp, Mrs. Grinnell brought in 1 P. californicus and another Peromyscus which we think may be boylii. Her gopher traps set down by the old house yielded a large and a small Thomomys. This afternoon Mrs. Grinnell reported seeing a garter snake and caught a beautiful little Hyla. She also pointed out a chipmunk over in the redwoods. What a woman! The skies clouded over again this afternoon
