Jonich 1953 Anas acuta july22 Point Barrow, Alaska Head of 7 on recently deserted mound of snowy owl nest #3. Parts of wings, skeleton, and feather groups on adjacent mound. Evidently the bird had been caught and eaten by the owls. july28 A third nest at New Pass is about 160' from the short-eared owl nest and about 120' from the duck nest. This nest had been broken up, the eggs peched open by birds. Nest identified by comparison with others, the down tufts having a basal whiteness to each one. At Birch while watching eider flights I saw one group of 8 7 pintails that came over the shooting area. Cabines stationed there unhesitatingly fixed upon them and dropped one bird. july29 Flock of 42 foraging on inlet of salt water lake, near Voth's Station. july30 One 7 on fresh water lake. A nest at S.E. edge of Central Marsh or high polygon was deserted. It contained 7 eggs with well-developed embryos. Aug.8 Four females on Central Marsh. Aug.9 17 7's on slough at Brittan Manor.
