Journal 25 6 Borell Ojo Sagua, Chihuahra, el 5000ft. Mexico March 17 Continued waded almost across the big lake. The lake (water) now covers several hundred ad perhaps over 1000 acres - the surprising thing is that I did not find any water over 3 inches deep. It is a very shallow playa that will likely dry up shortly. The water is muddy at the Birds seen around this playa. Shovellers, about 200 shoveller were actively feeding. Apparently some seeds must be washed or blown into this playa. It doesn't appear that any food could be produced in the lake. I took a D & E F. Both were thin - the pair weighed 1# lbs. Ova not developed in F. No shoveller or other ducks seen on Mar 12 Bluewing Teal - one collected - no others. Dowitcher one (non-bred, plumage) collected from a group of 4; another group of 5 was observed.
