Journal 23 E Borell Ojo Sagana, Chihuahua, 500ft March 13 Cold last night (40oF at 7am) and cool but sunny all day 68oF at 3pm. Light wind all day. Most of the cottonwoods are coming into leaf. Most willows are not. Catclaws & mesquites still dormant. Very little mutual activity among birds and almost no singing. Occasionally we hear a dove cooing, the cooing of a roadrunner or a call from a meadowlark. Birds seen - Very little change from previous recordings. Brewer Sparrows are still here in great numbers. They are in the marsh, in the brush, in dryland grass, on the ground and even high in large cottonwoods. This makes the collecting of other small sparrows difficult. Wilson Sparge still here in usual numbers. Quino? Too far from our pond - one collected.
