March 11
Ice or shallow water, 30 deg F. at
7:30 am. cold wind all day 62 deg F at 1 pm.
Took long hike to the west and
north. There are a number of pools
and wet areas through this portion
of the zacaton flats.
Bird population about the same
except for the following:
Red-shafted flickers increased. Saw
one group of nine this am.
Diaz Ducks saw 14 in one flock.
mallard hen with the 14 Diaz ducks
Killdeer increased. Saw one group
of 20 in a wet area
Shorebirds - one group of 7 flushed
from shallow water area. Not sure
of identity - not able to collect a specimen.
Painted Redstart - first seen - collected
Mistle 2 or Audubon warblers are
increasing.
Brewer Sparrows still abundant
Wilson Snipe - saw 25
