E. Boell Ojo Sagua, Chihuahua, 5000 ft. M. Mex.
April 16
made a trip to Ricardo Flores Magon
which is 37 mi. N. of El Sueno (or Sellos)
at the intersection of the paved
highway ad Rio Santa Clara (which
in this area seems to be known
as Rio del Carmen. We crossed
the river then drove up [north] four
miles along a dirt road that lays
along the dry foothills parallel to
the irrigated river valley. Along
the river bank ad the main
irrigation ditches are rows of large
cottonwoods and willows. The willows
are now heavily infected with
Kent catajillos. Most of the valley
(about 1/2 mi. wide) has been cleared and
is in intensive cultivation. The land
is now being plowed or seeded.
The dry hill sides are covered with
greas, mesquite, cholla, joshua pear,
little leaf sumac, catclaw and
a few other shrubs including some
desert willow (Chilopsis) in the draws.
There is a good flow (possibly 10 S.F.)
of water in the Santa Clara but most of it
is being taken out above ad around Magon.
