12:50 Tiercel peregrine on N ledge #3 - eating prey, which
is either small, or has already been mostly eaten.
December 4, 1988
14:45. Weather sunny, warm. Walked towards campanile from
Northside. Could see the tiercel sitting on N ledge #3.
Went up to 10th floor Evans, but could not get out onto
the balcony. Went back down to 2nd floor balcony. At
14:55 watched the peregrine leave the campanile and fly
straight north, skimming past the west face of Evans
at the building height up to the level of about Euclid ave.
at which point the tiercel turned sharply west and
began a long pumping dive. The tiercel fell from
sight approx. west of Holy Hill. It reappeared not
more than 10-15 seconds later out of the NW area of
the campus. It was flapping hard, and coming from
a very low position. It "labored" to gain height,
coming towards the campanile. Clearly, a pigeon was
dangling from its feet. The tiercel returned to the
campanile, circled behind it once, then landed on the N
stucco railing (ledge 5). Pigeon wings still jerking. The tiercel
looked about, then dispatched it with bites to the head/neck.
- The tiercel was visible panting while flying to the campanile.
