Field Notes Doug Bell July 26, 1988 Michael Brown works part time for fisheries doing patrol. He caught 2 guys yesterday fishing w/out a license - $50 fines). His wife is Janet - who runs a bird sanctuary at Sewall, across the inlet from Pat Clements. Janets' parents - Kit + Bruce Gifford, homesteaded Sewall beginning in 1969. The place has a long history before that - it used to be the "town" for logging - but the location is horrible - 90 mph winds in Winter, etc. At any rate, Michael took both Marian and I out to shoot a few more gulls - I collected 2 at Cowley Rocks (419, 420). Then we went over to Sewall to meet Janet & her parents - very nice place - a spotless homestead w/ loads of Canada Geese, deer (tame), ducks of all sorts, fish hatchery, tame crow. An incredible lifestyle. After an hour a half we were taken back to Pat Clements. I spent the rest of the day doing the gulls. Had dinner and long talk with Michael this evening. Stayed at his house overnight. July 27, 1988 Drove from Pat Clements to Queen Charlotte City. Saw many Bald Eagles, Red-breasted Sapsucker, Cassin's Finches (flock), Song Sparrows - young, Robins, Kingfishers, Common Loons. Worsed over to Alliford Bay and Sandspit with the ferry. Met Dave and Audrey Potterhill Patterill in Sandspit at 17:30. On the ferry rode across
