Field Notes Doug Bell July 22, 1988 across flat twenty. Saw a small deer, reddish in clr. We stayed at the Bells Mini Hostel in Thell - what a dump - and it cost $25.00. July 23, 1988 Rain. We drove on to Port Clements for Breakfast. Saw another Bald Eagle. At Port Clements we saw 2 ad, 1 4yr & 1 3yr. Bald Eagle. No gulls. Met Keith, the Indian working for MacMillan Bloedel, again (we had met him at the hostel last night). Loons at a distance. We drove out the Logging Road to Juskatla. Song Sparrows in brush along its way. At Juskatla Inlet: 2 ad. Bald Eagles, a large group of Canadian Geese (several adults and 18 cygnets), 2 Harle Seals, a female Red-breasted Merganser with about 20 chicks, 8 Greater Scaup, Belted Kingfisher. Drove back to Port Clements, then up to Massett along Massett Inlet. More Bald Eagles, lots of cows, across occasional ravens. Several deer. Rain. Found a B+B next to the wharf in Morsett. Asked fisherman for possibility of rides out to Langara I., they said it takes about 2 hrs to get out there - but none would take me. One guy, Mike, would charter his boat to me for $40.00 per hour. A possibility, at least. Went skiing along beach between Massett and Haide around 18:00. Crows, Bald Eagles (3yrs,ad), Song Sparrows, fledgling Orange-crowned Warbler, Golden- crowned Kinglet, Townsend's Warbler. Saw one ad &
