Field Notes Donny Bell July 18, 1988 Teenagers (5?). Quite fascinating, great history. Allan Jr spent 10 yrs in East Africa. His grandfather was active in SE Asian Ornithol. Allan Senor was good friend of Gunnells'. Some point family was donation of his 9000 skins to MVZ. Allan Brooks Sr was responsible for initially describing the Thayer's Gull, and Allan Jr has noticed the Thayer's propensity for sitting on low rocky inlets or low piers during winter, whereas Herring will always pick higher spots - pilings, etc., for setting. They haven't noticed any real change in gull types. Allan & Betty are active in local conservation groups (activists). They let me row a boat out into the straight at sunset - quite nice - Bald Eagles, Common Murres, Markled Murlellets, Bonaparts' Gulls, CWG's. July 19, 1988 Up at 05:00. Mom & I drove out to the Oyster River Enhancement Society's Reserve at mouth of Oyster River. Neat decid/aspic woods. 3 River Otter, Winter Wrens, Robins, Red-shafted Slicers, 2 separate pairs of Bald Eagles + one rimm. Shot 2 gulls (048, 409, 410), lost 2 gulls in drink, missed 2. Poor shooting. Too nervous, resorts close by. Mite-match 2, 5/+3000 gulls, due east & miles. Drove moth to Pat Hardy. Ugly clerents - urse then on the Amazon, eh?
