Huckleberries and [illegible] salmonberries there. Lots of
Brewin's Thrushes. Saw one adult Cooper's Hawk.

July 18, 1988
Awoke to the sounds of Bald Eagles again. Ate
breakfast at the Austrian Chalet -- behind it in
a series of pines 2 Bald Eagle nests -- one imm.
seen. Drove to Campbell River. Called Alan
Brooks, Jr. up - will meet him tonight. Went
to B.C. Fish & Game. Met Larry Johnston - he
suggested a number of places up north for collecting,
said shooting at the dump is out because it's
a municipality. Also said I have to buy a
hunting license for the gun ($3.00). Had to go
to the Govt Agent for this. Tried also to get
turn signal fixed, no luck, mechanics not in on Mondays.
We drove up 19 to past Roberts' Lake, took logging
road for coast, but it seemed so rough & too far,
turned back. Stopped at Bloedel-MacMillan
Logging Co. for permission to shoot Menses Bay,
but it didn't have many gulls. We went back
to Campbell River, walked the fishing pier -
Pigeon Guillemots, Caspian Tern (1), lots of GWB's,
some Bonapart's Gulls. At 19:00 we drove to
Alan Brooks Jr.'s house. Wife Betty & 2 kids -
