Field Notes Doug Bell July 15, 1988 Could keep working on the gulls after dock. We spent the night in the Mini Motel next to the Crab Dock ($35.00). It was really a nice room, upper floor of an A-frame with view of Meares Island. July 16, 1988 We awoke to sounds of Bald Eagles. Spent morning prepping gulls under Crab Dock pier. Two Bald Eagles (adults) around. Had a beer with Dave on his boat. Then we went into town for lunch. Headed south to the Pac Rim Park Hdypts - walked along beach at Wickaninnish Center. Lots of gulls feeding offshore. One Osprey flew past. Drove on to Ucluelet to try to get to the northern point of Berkeley Sound, but too much private property. We found a cove on the west side of the peninsula - possessed by a Kingfisher. We ate a light lunch then drove east along Highway 4 for the Parksville/Nanaimo area. We left the west coast of Vancouver Island around 17:00. Arrived on the east coast 20:30. Camped at Englishman River Falls Campground ($8.00). July 17, 1988 Got a speeding ticket on road ( Hwy 4) into Parksville - didn't notice I was going too fast - we had just come off the campground onto main highway. Route into town did not seem well marked & speed
