Field Notes Doug Bell July 2, 1988 there. I waited until he calmed down, then collected him with one shot (1988 374). An unusual gull - dark pink eye rings, CW6 eyes, and very nearly WC wing tips. Quite a gull! Back at the Winter Palace I mailed the gull for making a skin tomorrow. 20:00-20:30. Went to overlook near the Lighthouse, gorgeous evening light, fair wind. Gulls are using the breeze to cliff soar. Good numbers of Puffins out and about. Some sitting 20 yards, 10 yards away: yellow irides, orange eyerings - just beautiful. Ate fresh Rock Cod tonight. July 3, 1988 Up at 05:00 to help launch the zodiac for Bob and Anne. It's the start of commercial salmon season. I then walked out to Tote Point (south end) [illegible]ng coffee to watch the "Rush-Hour" of boats proceeding out to Salmon waters. Just incredible. Boats of all sizes, hundreds of them. Skinned the gull. Then parked. We were taken off the island at 13:15. Saw an mm, Bald Eagle over Neah Bay. We were on shore, packed into the cars and on our way to Seattle by 15:30. Arrived Seattle ca. 18:45. Spent evening at Tim Wooler's place, because Ken Caruso not at home.
