Field Notes June 28, 1988 Drove to Coast Oyster near Markham (Grays Harbor) for ride out to Goose Island. Tim Morris & Mike from Linn still there from last year. Tim was out with the boat at 08:30. Talked to Mike awhile. They're spraying Sevin on the mud flats again in a month to control Sand Shrimp. Oystering is doing well. Also best crab season in 15 years. For Mike had just been operated on - quite sore. Tim returned with crew. Took me out about 09:30. Goose Island appears to be nearly split in two, with a N & S half now. South half had lots of gulls. No time to count, as Tim waited while I shot 4 birds (556-559). About 70 Cormorants nesting. Also cover Double-crested Cormorants nesting on West end of S Goose Island (~40 nests) and on top of high dunes at N Goose Island (~60 nests). Saw a couple whales, cn. 30 feet in the Harbor - one quite close, head down to eye and tail - very impressive Gray Whales. Back to Coast Oyster by 11:00. Finished doing gulls by 15:00. Drove to Evergreen St. College to drop off gulls, then [illegible] back to Aberdeen thence north on 101. 19:00 at Destruction Island viewpoint Lighthouse and house on island; about 2 miles out. Two good large sea rocks away to the south. To north 4 very large sea stacks and lots of needle-like
