Coast Oyster of South Bend, WA brought me
out to Pine Island (Mr. Wayne Morris). Arrived
04:45 hrs. counted 160 agitated gulls in the dim
morning light. First check of morphotype reveals
35:13:6 W6:H:GWG a second check reveals
32:20:8 W6:H:GWG. Count of total gulls: 194.
Pairs?
W6xWG:
HxH:
Collected five birds (048 351-355) on Pine Island
(seven shots fired, lost one bird, obtained five).
Occasional Caspian Terns come by. Saw an Western
Gull carrying a smaller gull egg in bill. It proceeded
to drop it upon landing until broken, then ate it. I
almost suspect it was a Ring-billed Gull egg, as
these birds are also around Pine Island. Pine
Island is very small, it circumference could probably
be walked in 15 minutes. The gulls are packed
in thick here.
Dave Eric was the boat driver and crew
foreman for Coast Oyster today.
