Clouds were thick and it was threatening to rain.
Was in harbor by 08:15. Glenn Eager was there,
looking at his small cabin cruiser which had sprung
a leak and sunk the day before. I loaded up my
car, thanked him, and said goodbye. He suggested I get
in touch with Harry Taylor, up at East Point Fishhaus,
Cannery, Willopa Bay for a contact & possible ride.
I drove to Astoria for breakfast, then back to St.
Columbia Youth Hostel to pick up my radio that
Maren sent. Phil Owen was there and was his
girlfriend, Tiny, who had "come back" after leaving
for her vacation yesterday. Good for him. Then drove
on to Willopa Nati Wildlife Refuge. Jim Heidley (Manager)
and Eileen Dunlop were there - greeted me
warmly. Unfortunately, my WA permit had not
arrived, quite upsetting. I tried calling, but only
got secretaries. Found out it hadn't been issued yet.
I was fuming mad. Said I'd drive up to
Olympia for my permit. Which I did. Maveen
Robe came into the office at 15:30. We were a bit
strained with each other, but I did get the permit.
Went directly over to Port of Olympia, and got Mr.
Jim Jackson's approval for trapping gulls. In the
meantime I made arrangements with Mr. Wayne Morris
(Coast Oyster, Willopa,) to go out with his crew on
Monday (June 26), and Tim Morris [Coast Oyster - Grays
Harbor] on Tuesday (June 27). On the 28th &
