trap off of yesterday. The adult didn't seem too desperate
to incubate their one egg. But now, with audible
peeps from the one hatching egg and the other just piping,
the ? is glued to her nest.
The male CWG has been coming back to the nest
with material. It has also been sitting up on the
top of the island above its nest. Did an aggressive up-
sight towards 2 other & WGs. Some grass pulling.
Another CWG came by, tried to land near it,
but was threatened off by the CWG.
Left the island at ??? 14:50. On my way out over
the bridge I scared mp 2 CWs amongst the 45-
odds Western resting on the bridge.
In the evening I drove out to Whiskey Run Beach
which is located about mid-way between Cape Arago and
Bandon, OR. The beach itself had a number of sub-adult
Western Gulls, a few adults, and some sub-adult Ring-billed
gulls bathing and resting on a creek-outflow. The beach
was too crowded for shooting. I drove out a sandy road
just south of the beach access. Only made it a few 100 yds,
so I walked on parallel to the beach. Lots of gulls are
moving north along the escarpment at dune-level.
Strong NW wind, mist, fog, visibility ~10-5 miles, depending
on wind. Weird dune - the escarpment is about 150' high,
behind it are dunes covered in a thick mat of green, thorny
low brush. White-crowns, Goldfinches, a Mourning Dove,
Wrentits, Goss, Marsh Harriers seen. I found a
